Safety is our primary concern at the Ohio Skydiving Center. Please understand that no one can ever 100% guarantee you that you will be perfectly safe. If they could, it would take all the fun out of skydiving! Nobody can assure you that any airplane and/or parachute system will never fail. In other words, there is no such thing as a perfect airplane! If there were, airplanes would not have so many redundant backup devices in them.
Tandem skydiving provides the safest method for to experience skydiving without the cost and investment associated with learning to do it on your own. Industry trends and data supports that conclusion. Part of the exhilaration in performing a skydive is that many people still consider it to be "crazy"...although it has become a very common activity in the US. The training you receive when you arrive to skydive with us prepares you so that you can make an educated assumption of the risk involved and learn how to enjoy the experience. Our tandem instructors are trained to handle emergency procedures and we practice those regularly to maintain our proficiency.
Trust us...our best friends and family skydive with us, so we do everything we can to minimize the risks associated with skydiving. What are those things? Our aircraft are extremely well maintained by only the best aircraft mechanics in Ohio. It makes us extremely proud to have pilots come jump with us who are amazed at the excellent condition of our aircraft. Additionally, we only utilize very experienced FAA rated commercial pilots which are all trained to safety standards that exceed the industry requirements. Beyond the aircraft, we utilize state of the art equipment which is maintained on a very vigilant maintenance schedule. All of our equipment contains two parachutes, a main and a reserve. Additionally, all of our equipment employs what is referred to as an Automatic Activation Device (AAD) on the reserve parachute. This device is designed to deploy the reserve parachute at a predetermined altitude if it senses that the tandem is still in freefall at a predetermined altitude.
Even after all the aircraft/gear preparation and instructor training, nobody anywhere can ever guarantee perfect safety. In extreme sports such as skydiving, there are rare moments when even if you do everything right, a person can still be injured or die. However, we do everything we can to minimize those risks through proper training, experienced instructors and exceptional equipment. When we are done introducing the thrill of skydiving to you for the day, we like to go back home to our families!
The people who work there and set this up are the best.
